LEVICE

Levice is a small town situated in the south of Slovakia. Within the feamework of administrative division it has got the statue of district seat and is important political, economic and cultural centre in the souther part of Slovakia.
The town´s area had been settled already in the Stone Age which fact is demonstrated by having found primeval working tools and ceramics. The ruins of the stone castle built in 1318 are undoubtly the historical dominant of the town. Its first owner was Matúš Cak, later it belonged to King Karol Róbert. In the courtyard of the castle you can find the Tekovské Museum. Among the historical dominants we also include more than 100 years old building of the former Teacher´s Institute. Nowdays Levice is a modern town in which several hotele, agricultural, food and building companies have their seats.
The environs of Levice towards Dudince are rich with thermal springs. The suburban recreation centre of Margita-Ilona is a very frequented leisure place with two 50 m long and 3 smaller open – air swimming pools.
At present 36 167 inhabitants live in the area of the town including suburban parks Kalinciakovo, Malý Kiar, Cankov and Horša.

 
   
 
   

Our school

Our school is the oldest one in town. There are 7 other schools providing elementary education in Levice. There are 460 pupils at our school whom learn in 20 classrooms which are devided into 2 departments. Number of staff involved in education is 35...
In Slovakia children start school at the age of 6. They finish elementary education at the age of 14-15. Their lessons start at 8 o´clock and usually finish at half past one. Our school is open from Monday to Friday. There is also a great number of freetime activities in which pupils can improve their skills and talents. Foreign languages are taught from the 1st grade. Children and their parents are given the opportunity to choose between English and German language classes.
School year begins 1st September and finishes 30th June. During the school year pupils have 4 main holidays and the school is devided into 4 terms: Autums, Winter, Spring and Summer term: Christmas holidays take 2 weeks, Sprins holidays take 1 week. , Easter holidays 1 week. Summer holidays 8weeks. . The school year begins with an opening ceremony where the head-teacher welcomes all the pupils and introduces the teachers. The school maskot “Dominik“ welcomes the new pupils with a song. Our school provides education for all the children but in the last 3 years we have also established education for highly talented children. Last year we established friendship with a school in Bekešská Csaba in Hungary. In cooperation with this school we performed a theatrical play which was open to public.
