| LEVICE
Levice is
a small town situated in the south of Slovakia. Within the feamework
of administrative division it has got the statue of district seat
and is important political, economic and cultural centre in the
souther part of Slovakia.
The town´s area had been settled already in the Stone Age
which fact is demonstrated by having found primeval working tools
and ceramics. The ruins of the stone castle built in 1318 are
undoubtly the historical dominant of the town. Its first owner
was Matúš Cak, later it belonged to King Karol Róbert.
In the courtyard of the castle you can find the Tekovské
Museum. Among the historical dominants we also include more than
100 years old building of the former Teacher´s Institute.
Nowdays Levice is a modern town in which several hotele, agricultural,
food and building companies have their seats.
The environs of Levice towards Dudince are rich with thermal springs.
The suburban recreation centre of Margita-Ilona is a very frequented
leisure place with two 50 m long and 3 smaller open – air
swimming pools.
At present 36 167 inhabitants live in the area of the town including
suburban parks Kalinciakovo, Malý Kiar, Cankov and Horša. |
